Themes, Dreams, and Schemes : Banquet Menu Ideas, Concepts, and Thematic Experiences
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (June, 1997)
Author: G. Eugene Wigger
Average review score:

wow did I get sucked in: total waste...
This book is applicable to anyone with tons of cash to spare on a party hosted in 1954. As a caterer, I was looking for inspiration, but sadly, only found jello and marshmallow themes pervasive throughout the entire book. Not worth the paper it is printed on!

a reader from NY
A totaly great book for all caterers. Very inspiring!Has hundreds of menus you can adapt or use as an inspiration.
A lot of ideas for all kinds of parties and receptions.
I found it very helpful and interesting.I think it is a valuable source for all caterers.

Web Services Development with Delphi (With CD-ROM)
Published in Paperback by A-List Publishing (February, 2003)
Authors: Peter Darakhvelidze and Eugene Markov
Average review score:

25 pages about Web Sercices
This book, maybe a good Delphi book but out of the 695 pages only 25 has to do with Web Services which is a major part of the title. The book should be call "Delphi does Web stuff". On the other hand then it would not sell would it?
Printed on the cover: "For a Solid Understanding of How to Use Delphi for Creating Web Services" - You can find more up to date information by a using on google.

Excellent book!
If your looking for a great addition to your Delphi library, look no further than this book. It covers in great detail most of the issues that face web services development, from creating simple com servers, using MTS/COM+ transactions, and even database technologies such as DataSnap, its all here with the details and examples to put these technologies to use today!

I would recommend this book for anyone looking to sharpen thier skils in COM, Database Technologies, or Web Services/Web Application creation. The basics are covered as well as the more advanced topics all in great detail.

August
Published in Hardcover by Howard Fertig (August, 1990)
Authors: Knut Hamsun and Eugene Gay-Tifft
Average review score:

Entertaining, yet a weak effort from Hamsun.
August is the 2nd of 3 books in the August series. This novel pretty much stands alone in the works of Knut Hamsun. The novel doesn't really say much or do much, merely reporting furthur antics of August. While entertaining & enjoyabe (and a favorite among Norweigens), August is a definate letdown from all other Hamsun works I have read (Cultural Life...) aside.

Basic Electrical Engineering
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Higher Education (01 April, 1981)
Authors: Arthur Eugene Fitzgerald, David E. Higginbotham, and Arvin Grabel
Average review score:

Excellent Junior level college text
The first 6 chapters cover the basics of analyzing RLC networks. Chapters 7 thru 10 give a good introduction to semiconductor devices, amplifiers, and analog signal processing. Chapters 11 and 12 are a way too brief coverage of digital electronics (and is fast becoming dated material). Chapters 13 to 16 cover the basic concepts of magnetic circuits, AC motors, etc. Chapter 17 is a hodge podge introduction to some advanced material.

The text requires/uses basic calculus and complex numbers. There are lots of examples to explain each concept as it is introduced. The circuit analysis techniques developed in the first 5 chapters will be used throughout the students career. These chapters are very well laid out, leading the student along from one basic point to the next in a logical manner, and make this an excellent textbook. The sections on semiconductor devices and amplifiers are a little dated, but still cover basic relevant information. An example of where the text is dated is in the section on two-port networks which does not even mention S-parameter circuit models.

Bereft of Reason: On the Decline of Social Thought and Prospects for Its Renewal
Published in Hardcover by University of Chicago Press (March, 1995)
Author: Eugene Halton
Average review score:

Halton attempts to answer postmodern questions
Halton offers us a convincing approach to answering the questions of postmodernism through a path of moderation (extremism being a mark of modernism). Halton argues that the tightrope between many of the dualisms of modernity is misconceived. In the case of rationality/irrationality, what is ignored is human reason which is extra-rational. In the nature/nurture debate, what is ignored is the biological development that takes place in social contexts between infancy and toddlers in humans. This work is far more convincing than others dealing with the important questions that postmodern theory proposes without the theoretic weaknesses which cripple postmodernism.

Blood Brothers
Published in Hardcover by Carlton Press (September, 1985)
Author: Eugene C. Jacobs
Average review score:

There are better accounts out there
I have no doubt that Jacobs actually participated in the ordeals at Bataan and Corregidor. Those people suffered terribly at the hands of the Japanese. Though he gives quite an accurate account of the situation, right down to the activities of the 14th Infantry, I felt as though I was reading a technical manual or something. Mr. Jacobs and others like him went through terrible attrocities and I don't doubt his trauma one bit. I just feel that this story could have been written with a bit more feeling. Historically, it tells the tale from a different perspective of the battle of Bataan during WWII. Jacobs was in the 14th Infantry, engaged in guerilla warfare during the time of the entrapment and eventual surrender at Bataan. While he did not undergo the starvation on the pinensula and the subsequent "Death March", he endured his share of slave labor, tropical illness, starvation and beatings by the Japanese. If you want to read more about the time that Americans spent on the Bataan pinensula awaiting reinforcements that never came (thanks to Douglas MacAurhur), and the horror of the Death March, read "We Band of Angels". With all of that said, this book is still a good historical reference of the Pacific theater in WWII.

The Breakdown of Hierarchy: Communicating in the Evolving Workplace (Butterworth-Heinemann Business Books... for Transforming Business)

Good text for back ground on restructuring
The authors explained many commonly used assumptions in the organizational restructuring process. The book was easy to read and can provide a good companion to any book on corporate structure.

CICS : A Guide to Internal Structure
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (October, 1994)
Author: Eugene S. Hudders
Average review score:

Useful for CICS history
The publisher's description of this book refered the to "latest" release. Well, at the time this was written/revised the latest release was 3.1. As I write this, version 3 is dead, version 4 has about 100 days of support left, and we are running version 6.2 (aks CICS TS 2.2).
If you are a total newbie, then this will give you a good historical perspective and it introduces the new (domain) architecture which made it's first appearence in version 3, but if you are looking to find something specific in the currently available product this book will only help if Hursley has not moved it since 3.1
